RUAG buys German ballistic protection specialist
Switzerland’s RUAG Land Systems has bought Germany’s GEKE Schultztechnik GmbH (GST) for an undisclosed amount. The Lichtenau-based GST manufactures add-on protection packages and integrated armour for vehicle components, especially protection against mines, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFPs).
Currently, RUAG’s ballistic protection efforts focus on add-on equipment to strengthen vehicle underbellies to protect against mines, vehicle roofs to protect against top attack munitions and vehicle sides against anti-tank grenades such as the RPG series. The latter product line includes Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) and the Light Armour System against Shaped Ordnance (LASSO) system, which uses high-tensile steel netting (MPI March 15, 2009, page 10).
