To buy GMLRS guided rocket systems?

The Canadian Army has a requirement to purchase up to 17 NATO-compatible launchers and associated guided rockets for C$400 million (US$320 million). These are most likely to be Lockheed Martin Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) or the same company’s High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), both of which can fire 70km-range Guided MLRS (GMLRS) rockets.

The problems are that the requirement has not yet been written into a Cabinet document, so can be questioned by anybody, and the planned delivery dates from 2012 to 2014. The Canadian Army is scheduled to withdraw from Afghanistan in 2011.
