Additional F/A-18F Super Hornets?

If the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) decides to modify 12 of the 24 two-seat Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornets it has on order to the EA-18G Growler Electronic Attack role (MPI March 15, 2009, page 10), the service may need to order more Super Hornets.

The same may also apply if there are any further delays in delivery to the RAAF of the Lockheed Martin F-35A Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). The first F-35 is currently scheduled for delivery to Australian in 2013, followed by a few more in 2014 and “We will be working to achieve Initial Operational Clearance in 2015,” according to Air Vice-Marshal John Harvey, F-35 Program Manager at Australia’s Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO).
