Negotiating for more C-130J Super Hercules
Australia has started preliminary negotiations with Lockheed Martin to acquire an estimated six more C-130J-30 Super Hercules military transport aircraft, to add to its current fleet of 12.
The new aircraft would replace the Royal Australian Air Force’s 14 de Havilland Canada DHC-4 Caribou light transports, to be retired at the end of 2009, and some of the service’s eight remaining C-130Hs. They would supplement the recent acquisition of four Boeing C-17 Globemaster strategic airlifters.
