Autonomous underwater vehicles: The French DGA national armaments directorate has announced that it is seeking suitably qualified companies capable of supplying the French Navy with autonomous lightweight underwater reconnaissance vehicles for use by divers and mine clearing teams. The selected contractor will need to supply all the hardware, as well as provide operator training and technical support. The vehicles should be able to operate in waters of depths down to 100m. They should be equipped with side-looking sonar, a video camera, an acoustic camera or a high-frequency sonar. They should have an autonomy of 10h at a speed of 3kt and have a 12h recording capacity. They should be less than 2m in length and weigh a maximum of 60kg. The contract will run for a period of 48 months, including 24 months of maintenance in operating condition of the hardware.
