EADS wins MIKSA Phase 1
On March 19, EADS Defence & Security announced that it had won a border security contract with Saudi Arabia worth a reported US$1 billion. No further details are available, according to the company, “due to customer confidentiality.”
The contract is, in fact, believed to be for Phase 1 of the Saudi Arabian Border Guard’s Ministry of the Interior, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (MIKSA) program. The high-tech Phase 1 will cover the construction, over 5-6 years, of a double-lined, concertina wire fence along the entire Saudi desert frontier, with 135 electronically-controlled gates, fence-mounted Ultra Violet intruder detection sensors, buried radio detection sensors, ground and air surveillance radars and a comprehensive C4I system.
