Helicopter training centre in Bangalore
On March 23, a Joint Venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) and Canada’s CAE announced that it had finalised all necessary contracts and non-recourse financing to begin construction and development of a new, C$60 million (Rupees 240 crore) helicopter training centre in Bangalore.
The Helicopter Academy to Train by Simulation of Flying (HATSOFF) JV, which is equally owned by the two parties, ultimately will have enough state-of-the-art simulators to train up to 400 pilots a year, generating revenue of about C$16 million.
HATSOFF plans to offer initial, conversion, recurrent and mission training for civil and military flight and maintenance personnel. It will have multi-media classrooms, computer-based training and a training management information system.
The training centre will have simulator cockpits for two variants of the HAL-built Dhruv, the Bell 412 and the Eurocopter Dauphin. The Full Mission Simulator (FMS) will be full-motion certified to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Joint Aviation Authority (JAA) Level D, the highest level for flight simulators.
