US$2.1 billion sale of P-8Is approved

On March 16, the Obama Administration approved the US$2.1 billion direct commercial sale to the Indian Navy of eight Boeing P-8I Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft, or MPAs

Boeing signed the contract with the Indian Defence Ministry on January 1 (MPI January 1&15, 2009, page 12) and the company says it will deliver the first P-8I within 48 months, with the remaining seven by 2015.

The contract also includes support equipment, spares, training, and logistical support through 2019, according to a statement from the US State Department. It added that direct offsets are expected to include engineering services, manufacturing and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) projects totalling US$641.3 million.
