C-295M tactical transport aircraft

To replace the Czech Air Force’s four ageing Ukrainian Antonov An-26 transport aircraft, the Ministry of Defence on April 20 approved a plan to buy three Spanish EADS-CASA C-296Ms for Korunas 3.5 billion (€132.8 million) and exchange five Aero Vodochody L-159A light attack jets for a fourth aircraft. The Czech Air Force currently possesses 20 L-159As and one two-seat L-159B.

The contract will include logistics support and training of Czech Air Force pilots and ground technicians. It will be submitted for approval by the Czech Government within the next few days and, in case of an affirmative decision, it will be implemented between 2009 and 2011.
