EDA contract for SIMCLAIRS

The European Defence Agency (EDA) has signed a 48-month, €21 million (US$28 million) contract with four companies to provide Studies for Integrated Multifunctional Compact Lightweight Airborne Radars and Systems (SIMCLAIRS). The four companies are: Saab AB (Sweden); Selex Galileo (UK); Thales Sytèmes Aeroportés (France); and Thales UK Ltd. (UK).

      The main aim of this project is to deliver new technology solutions in the field of light and compact Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Radio Frequency (RF) payloads, with the combination of Synthetic Aperture Radar / Moving Target Indication (SAR/MTI), Foliage Penetration (FOPEN), Electronic Support Measures (ESM), and possibly communications. Expected results of the project will respond to the capability needs within the 2015-2020 time frame.
