Project Listener dropped

As part of the UK Ministry of Defence’s drive to balance its books over the next 2-3 years under the Planning Round 08 deliberations, the £50 million (US$99 million) Project Listener has been dropped.

General Dynamics UK and L-3 Communucations are currently working on the competitive Assessment Phase, due for completion this summer. The MoD had been expected to award the production contract in 2009.

Project Listener would have fused data from sensors on a number of Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) platforms to provide intelligence for precision strikes against selected targets. The MoD is now considering other methods to meet this requirement. © DAPSS  S.A., 2008, Switzerland
