On April 8, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the possible Foreign Military Sale to the Turkish Naval Forces Command of six Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors Mk41 Vertical Launch System (VLS) Baseline VII tactical modules and two sets of Mk41 VLS upgrade kits, for an estimated cost of US$227 million.

The Baseline VII tactical modules are intended to modernise two Meko Track IIA frigates and four ex-Perry class FFGs, while the two sets of Mk41 VLS upgrade kits are to modernise two Meko Track IIB Mk41 VLSs from Baseline IV to Baseline VII configuration. Included with the Mk41 VLS are the ships’ fire control system upgrades to allow for Raytheon Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM) capability. © DAPSS  S.A., 2008, Switzerland
