RfPs for 120 Light Armoured Patrol Vehicles

On March 31, the Polish Defence Ministry issued Requests for Proposals (RfPs) to four companies for the supply to the Polish Army of 120 4x4 wheeled Light Armoured Patrol Vehicles (LAPVs). Responses are due within 40-50 days and the MoD expects to sign the contract by November, with the first LAPVs to be delivered in March 2009. They are required primarily for the Polish battle group operating with NATO in South East Afghanistan.

The four companies that received the RfP are: Poland’s AMZ-Kutno (which manufactures the Tur); the UK’s BAE Systems Land Systems (RG-32M); Italy’s Iveco Defence Vehicles Division (Light Multipurpose Vehicle, or LMV); and Switzerland’s GD MOWAG (Eagle IV).

The LAPV specifications call for a vehicle with a maximum combat weight of 7.5t that is capable of carrying up to five fully-equipped troops. It must also provide better protection against mines and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) than the loaned M1114 HMMWVs currently used by Polish forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. © DAPSS  S.A., 2008, Switzerland
