PAKISTAN

Mica AAM and RC400 radar for JF-17 fighter

Bruno Berthet, Assistant Director of the International Development Department at the French Ministry of Defence, has confirmed that the Pakistan Defence Ministry is in negotiations to acquire MBDA Mica medium-range Air-to-Air Missiles (AAMs) and Thales RC400 multi-mission radars to equip the new JF-17 Thunder fighters of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

The PAF expects this year to receive the first eight of the initial 150 production JF-17s it has ordered, developed jointly by China’s Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation and the Pakistan Aeronau-tical Complex (PAC), in Kamra. The first 50 PAF aircraft will be equipped with Chinese avionics and missiles. The PAC started series production of the JF-17 on January 22, 2008 and expects to manufacture up to 250 aircraft for the PAF. © DAPSS  S.A., 2008, Switzerland
