RfP expected for 384 military utility helicopters

The Indian Defence Acquisition Council has approved a tender for up to 384 utility helicopters, 259 for the Indian Army and 125 for the Indian Air Force, paving the way for the issue of a Request for Proposals (RfP), worth more than US$2 billion, by mid/end-May.

The RfP is expected to be sent to AgustaWestland, Bell Helicopter, EADS-Eurocopter and Kamov, who will have three months to respond. The bids will be valid for 18 months after submission and, under India’s offset regulations, 30% of the contract value must be re-invested in India.

Of the 384 machines, 197 will be delivered in fly-away condition by the original equipment manufacturer, starting in about 2011, while 187 will be licence-produced in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL). © DAPSS  S.A., 2008, Switzerland
