PA2 aircraft carrier in doubt

On April 20, French Defence Minister Hervé Morin said that the current budget situation “makes the construction of a second aircraft carrier difficult.” He added that the final decision would be taken “within the next few weeks” by President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The French Navy currently operates a single carrier, the nuclear-powered Charles de Gaulle. Plans for a second, conventionally-powered aircraft carrier, the PA2, have been drawn up, based on the 65,000t CVF design for the British Royal Navy. © DAPSS  S.A., 2008, Switzerland
