Spada 2000 air defence systems

On April 16, MBDA Chief Executive Antoine Bouvier confirmed that MBDA Italia had won a E415 million (US$656.56 million), five-year  contract from the Pakistan Air Force to supply 10 batteries of Spada 2000 air defence systems. The contract became effective in February this year.

Each Spada 2000 battery includes a 60km-range radar and two firing sections, each with two sextuple launchers for Aspide 2000 Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs). The SAMs have a maximum intercept range of more than 20km.

In Pakistan, the Spada 2000 system is reported to have beaten competition from Germany’s Diehl BGT Defence, the USA’s Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems and Sweden’s Saab Bofors Dynamics. © DAPSS  S.A., 2008, Switzerland
