ADGE upgrade

The Malaysian Ministry of Defence has awarded ThalesRaytheonSystems (TRS) a contract, of undis-closed value, to upgrade the Royal Malaysian Air Force Air Defence Ground Environment (ADGE).

The upgrade will create a new air defence Sector Operations Centre (SOC) and includes the installation of one new long-range air defence radar. The SOC command and control software will be an adaptation of the Sentry Air Defence Ground Environment System developed by TRS in Fullerton, California. Sentry is also the basis for the Battle Control System (BCS) recently declared operational by the US Air Force and Canadian Air Force for the air defence of the North American continent.

TRS in France will deliver the long-range air defence radar. It is part of a new family of high-, medium- and low-altitude digital radars that provides unmatched detection performance as well as outstanding operational availability. The radar is perfectly adapted to overcome the challenges of Malaysia’s topography, which is characterised by its tropical environment and the need to operate simultaneously over mountainous terrain, coastal plains and oceanic approaches. © DAPSS  S.A., 2008, Switzerland
